When I retired over 11 years ago, the first place we spent time as snowbirds was at St. Augustine Beach, FL This was before we became RVer’s. We spent 4 winters at St. Augustine Beach in rented condos near the beach. It was the hook that made us love the snowbird lifestyle.
We really like this area of Florida. The beach is spectacular. It’s flat and several miles long. A great beach for walking or bike riding. It also has the feel of a small casual beach town with no high rise condo buildings like you see in other Florida beach towns. Traffic is almost nonexistent. And it’s just a few miles to visit the historic city of St. Augustine
We decided to spend our snowbird time further south in a warmer area. But we still enjoy making a stop in St Augustine Beach when we make our annual snowbird migration.
A few weeks ago, we spent 5 days at St. Augustine Beach. While I was there, I visited some favorite places and decided to make a video to share. You can see it below.
There’s a lot that I didn’t cover in the video. Just off the island are places like Fort Matazansas, Marineland, and the city fo St. Augustine. And there’s plenty more great food places.
Below you’ll find some related posts that I wrote about wintering at St. Augustine Beach.

We love St Augustine. Thanks for covering the area highlights. We will be back there someday.
Nice video.
J,
Thanks for climbing the lighthouse steps in St. Augustine. Been there and it is a nice view.

I lived on Vilano Beach in the mid-60s and often go back to visit St. Augustine. While the town of St. Augustine can be crowded with tourists, the area as a whole is remarkably similar today to what it was like nearly 60 years ago. The stretch of beach north of Vilano up toward Ponte Vedra is one of the most undeveloped beaches in Florida.
St Augustine Beach is a nearly perfect combination of an old style, low key, natural beach yet with plenty of places to eat and engaging places to visit. It’s nearly perfect old style Florida.
Thanks for the video tour. It made me homesick, but I loved it anyway.

Thanks for your comment. I agree that the beach from Vilano north is nice. There are places in and near the panhandle that are also old style FL.
