It’s now been 7 years since we moved our snowbird roost from St. Augustine Beach down to Fort Myers Beach. St. Augustine was very nice but it could be cool during the winter months. We didn’t encounter too many beach days there during January and February.
Fort Myers Beach is in Florida’s tropic zone which is the general area below a line from Sarasota to Fort Pierce. Winter daytime temperatures here are generally in the 70’s-80’s and high 50’s at night. We like it because it’s pretty much summer-like weather all during December through March.
San Carlos RV Resort
We stay at an RV park that is about 1 mile from the beach at Fort Myers Beach. San Carlos RV Resort is a small RV park that caters to returning snowbirds. The sites are small and packed close together but the place is all about location. It’s an easy walk or bike ride to the beach, restaurants, and community services. I use my bike for getting around and rarely drive the car. And the people who run the park are great.
I’ve never really written about the park or done any video. But this year I decided to do a video of our arrival, set up, and give a quick tour. The video has been on my YouTube channel for a couple of weeks. I decided to post it here for folks who may not have not seen it.
As you can see in the video, it’s pretty close quarters and may not be for everybody. The park is usually booked solid during the January thru March period. The park gives preference to returning customers. They allow us to reserve our sites for the following year prior to leaving at the end or our stays.
Our Winter Home
So, that’s my snowbird roost. It’s a great place to spend the winter. The climate allows us to be outside and active for much of the winter months. We usually arrive sometime in early December and leave sometime in April.
My wife and I have made numerous friends in the area and park. We’ve gotten involved in the community. We both belong to churches and have joined area health clubs, We no longer consider ourselves tourist or vacationers. This is where we live 4 months of the year.

What a beautiful park, and you just can’t beat the area. I stayed at Indian Creek many years ago and took a ride through San Carlos.
I imagine the monthly costs have to be at least $1700 per month, but it sure looks worth it, especially if your a beach lover like my wife is.
The park has some seasonal rates based on length of stay. We sign up to stay 4 months and our rent averages $1,200 per month. The minimum stay to get a discounted seasonal rate is 3 months. The normal daily rate is $65-$100+ depending on the type of site.
My wife and I just drove through that park last week based on your mention couple of years ago and meeting a very nice representative at the Tampa RV show. You’re right, it’s very tight. Was interesting to see so many RV rear ends hanging over the water! Great location though and it sounds like a wonderful community atmosphere. Will definitely keep it in mind! Thanks for the update.
What was your leak priblem that u found at kitchen sink thst Winebago took care of. Please
I don’t recall ever having a leak problem at my kitchen sink. I had a soft floor problem in front of the kitchen sink that was caused by a lack of floor support, not a water leak. Winnebago fixed the floor because it was a design issue in the floor.
