Thanks for commenting. St. Augustine is still a nice place to hang out with lots of good places to eat. I'm very familiar with the beach scene that you describe. Luckily most of the development on the beach is under 3 stories.

Back in 1974, my wife and I visited St. Augustine and loved it. At that time, one could head east over the Bridge of Lions and keep going until the road made a big turn to a southerly direction. I would stop at that turn, where there was a motel or Inn on my left. If I faced south, stuck my arm straight out at shoulder height and turned up my thumb, I could block the view of the next building down the coast which, as I recall, was large and multi-story. Nothing between me and that building but empty beach and ocean view.
Last time we were there (circa 2000), we drove that stretch and literally could not see the beach or ocean due to condo construction, etc. Most of the new buildings had wood or concrete walls at the edge of the road, for their privacy, I suppose, but there was no longer any view (unless, of course, the deed to one of those condos had your moniker on it!).
But St. Augustine still has the Castillo de San Marcos, parts of the old town, the central square, so still plenty to see. And, sort of diagonally across the street from the Castillo, there was a small "storefront" restaurant ("The Chimes," was it?) that produced great food at fair prices.
   Ah, well...

By the way, keep up the good work you're doing with the blog!

Hank,
I really don't have any experience traveling with pets. If you're renting a house or condo, you should ask it they allow pets. Some may have limitations (size and breed). I know some RV parks want to see a rabies shot certificate. Sorry I couldn't help.

Thanks for all the great info.
Any tips on traveling with two family relations, our two dogs?
Although we have a full sized van, we need to rent a condo or home.
