Not too much to report so far on our Colorado road trip. Â It’s been three long 400+ mile days behind the wheel getting us to the mid-west. Â We’ve been westbound following the white lines, staying caffeinated, and parking over night at truck stops.
I know they’re not for everyone, but I like the truck stops. They have good facilities / services for RVers and I sleep well to a chorus of humming idling diesels.  Boondocking at truck stops is all part of the RVing experience.  But if I do a few more nights among the truckers, there’s a risk that I might change my wardrobe to sleeveless shirts, develop an appetite for chili dogs, and begin drinking big gulps 😉
Here’s a short video I shot on my cell phone to show what a couple have been like.
The only thing to note was that we got hung up in a huge traffic jam on I-70 just crossing the border into Indiana. Â The delay was caused by a major accident in the east bound lane. Apparently, a big semi truck came barreling into a construction zone going way to fast. Â Traffic had halted in front of him and he tried to swerve and avoid hitting the car in front. Â He grazed off that car and then slammed into the rear of car stopped in the passing lane. Â He rammed that car into the back of another semi completely crushing it and killing the driver of the car. Â The person killed was a 22-year-old woman from Boston.
Man, you never know when your number is going to get punched. Â One minute this young woman is stopped in a traffic jam on the highway probably listening to the radio and the next instant a truck rams into her from behind crushing her car into the back-end of a truck and killing her. Â No warning, she never saw it coming, and nothing she could do.
I feel so bad for the unknowing victims of freak accidents, violent acts, and acts of God. Â They do nothing wrong. Â Just a person who happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. These incidents are a stark reminder of how fleeting life can be.
Tomorrow we cross into tornado alley and will be keeping an eye on the horizon. Missouri always seems to welcome us with some sort of wacky weather.
So, for now it’s a big 10-12 from the J. Dawg.
Hopefully self-driving semi trucks will help eliminate these accidents.
