What a great summer we’ve had this year in New England! The weather has been so nice. I was able to go to the beach a few times, got back riding my bike, and made good use of my pool. And now it’s the end of August and the closing chapter of this summer has just a few more pages. It seemed to go by so quick.
As I’ve done in the past 15 or so years, Labor Day weekend is a time I go to the South County of Rhode Island to attend the Rhythm and Roots Music Festival. It’s three days of great roots and dance music that I look forward to.
Like I did last year, I decided to go down to the Rhode Island South County seashore a few days early and take advantage of a good forecast. There was going to be at least five days of clear 80 degree weather. Perfect for hanging out at the Charlestown Breachway.
Last year I found the Charlestown Breachway and had a great time camping on the beach. So before I left, I made my plans to return and booked a waterfront site for four days. And now the weather was going to make my advance planning pay off. I got to park my RV on the waterfront and be steps away from the beach.
Last year, I wrote a blog post about my stay at the Breachway. For this post, I’m during something different and making a Vlog post. Vlog stands for video log, Unlike my blog (web log) posts which are a combination of text and pictures, a vlog is a narrated video. I’ve seen a couple of bloggers use this format recently. It’s a different way to convey some travel info. Kinda like a show and tell on video. Something different from text and pictures, so I figured I’d give it a try.
I’ve been doing video for a few years now and really like it as a medium to document my journeys. I have all the tools to do video (video camera’s, video editing software, tripod, YouTube account) and have taught myself how to make videos of my journeys. But with the vlog, I’ll be in front of the camera and narrating (Yikes!). It’s very different – filming and talking at the same time while trying not to look or sound like an idiot. Not easy for me. And, it takes some planning because I’m doing the story in real-time versus writing and editing something from memory. But this old “Dawg” is up to learning a new trick.
So, without further ado (cue the drum roll please), here’s J. Dawg’s vlog on the Charlestown Breachway.
I had a wonderful and relaxing stay at the Breachway. It was great just being able to sit and watch all the birds feed on the incoming tide. See the snails come in at low ride. Watch the bait fish swim around my toes. There were few people at the beach. A sign that summer is in it’s last few days. For me, it was perfect. And the sunsets were terrific.
Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think of my attempt at a vlog format. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.
If you like the breachway you should look into scusset beach campground it borders the Cape Cod Canal. Reservations are made via reserve america however it one of those places that you need to reserve before the season.
Bob, Thanks for the comment. I’ve heard of and and ridden my bike through it while biking the Canal Bike Path. Thanks for mentioning it. Will have to see about getting a reservation. Thanks.
