Thanks for reading and the feedback! For me, if the fuel efficiency was close, I'd go with a gas engine. The fuel is less expensive, there's no DEF, and no worries about fuel quality. For a van conversion, if its not too heavy, the fuel efficiency may be very close. And if you don't put on a lot of miles it the difference may not be material. I am satisfied with my diesel. For me, I'm saving money on fuel based on how many miles I drive (25,000 per year). The engine is rock solid and has plenty of power. The DEF is an added step but its easy to deal with. The biggest downside is the limited places to get a Sprinter worked on. Good luck with you decision and thanks again for reading.

What a wonderful website, full of lots of useful information! I have been reading with interest your comments about the MB dielsel engine and admire your philosophical stance towards the check engine light : )
We are considering having Sportsmobile convert a van for us. Now that Ford offers a commercial size van with gasoline or Diesel engine options, it looks like we will have to start reading up on the pros or cons of each.
Overall, are you satisfied with the diesel?
