One of the problems with living in New England is that it takes a few days to drive to another spot in the country. My son and I have just headed out on our Colorado Road Trip.  After three long days of driving across Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois, we made our way to Missouri.
Missouri is smack dab in the middle of the country and spring time in Missouri is tornado time.
This is the fourth time I’ve driven across Missouri.  Each time I’ve been greeted by tornado watches and warning. It’s a place were I have to keep an eye on the horizon and the weather radio handy. It’s also a place I’m anxious to leave. Remembering the images of what a tornado did to Joplin a few years ago, I just soon avoid high winds, hail, and storms with F designations.
It didn’t take long for Missouri to welcome us. Here’s what greeted us as we approached Columbia, MO.
We spend the night at Cottonwoods RV Park in Columbia. It’s a nice place to take a break from the truck stops, take a long shower, dump the tanks, and cook a god meal.
Although we had a tornado watch, luckily it was an uneventful night. The next day we made our way to Independence to visit the Harry S Truman Presidential Library.
