Bernie,
Thanks for taking the time and sharing your story. I'm glad things are working out for you and that you're making adjustments. That was key for me. If I can't do what I used to do, then do what I can do. I had a Roadtrek 190 and it was great for traveling and running errands. Especially with a bathroom. Good luck with your travels.

I want to thank you for your post. I found it inspirational and a guide to go by. Last summer (2014) I was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer that had also moved to my liver. I had been on my way to SE Alaska with truck and trailer when I became unwell. In Montana I turned back and went home and finally sought medical help. That’s when I was diagnosed and told that it was potentially terminal. Well, I sold off the truck and trailer and started to prepare for what seemed inevitable. After almost a year of surgeries and chemotherapy as well as “cyber-knife” treatment, my cancer is in remission. However, after losing a pretty good chunk of intestine, things just don’t work like they used to and, like you, I have “accidents” when I can’t find a bathroom quickly enough. Though my current situation is not as bad as your ulcerative colitis, I drew inspiration from your example and decided that I am not going to let this get me down. I love to be outdoors and hike and mushroom hunt. After one accident out in the woods recently, I’ve decided to carry my “emergency” kit of TP, wipes, and one or two Depends (was hoping to graduate from them after 6 months of wearing a “diaper”). Thanks so much for guiding my way. I’m now feeling positive about the future and have started looking around for a Roadtrek (190 Popular or 210 Popular). I’m ready to get back on the road!

Thanks for your feedback, Lynne. That's a nice story about what you did with your Mom. One of Stephen King's writing tips to to write about the tough stuff that no one else is writing about. That motivated me to write this entry. Thanks again. I'm enjoying your posts from UT.

Linda, there's a lot of things that can cause colitis type symptoms or inflame the colon. I'm glad to here you found the gluten link for your husband. Gluten can aggravate my symptoms so I try to avoid it, but for me its not a cure. I'll check out your blog. Thanks for reading.
