And so it was, on this 20th day of January 2014, I handed the keys for my Roadtrek over to an RV Dealer and closed a chapter in my RV’ing journey. On this day, I sold my Roadtrek 190 and traded up to a slightly bigger motor home. The Roadtrek was my first motor home and it served me well for almost 2 years, 32,000 miles, and over 200 nights of being my home on wheels.
The day I bought the Roadtrek, I was brimming with the good feeling that I was going to live out one of my life long dreams – traveling this great country. The Roadtrek was the enabler that allowed me to make this dream come true. The Roadtrek exposed to me to the great world of RV’ing. It taught me new skills, took me new places, and helped me meet new people.
My Roadtrek has been an ever ready and reliable partner. It always started on command and was ready to go whenever I put it in gear. It faithfully took me places that I always wanted go. It took me over mountains, down the coast, and across the great plains. It never left me stranded. It kept me safe and sheltered from the elements. It never complained when I wanted to linger or leave early. It took good care of me and I took good care of it.
My Roadtrek was a great road trip vehicle, but I found that stay-put camping (like spending the winter in Florida) was challenging in such a small space. I loved the nimbleness, quality, and efficiency of the Roadtrek and wanted to find something that had those same qualities with just a bit more space.
My new motor home is a Winnebago View Profile. Still small at 25 ft and technically a class C. It’s 5 feet longer that my Roadrek and about 1,500 lbs heavier, but can still fit is most parking spots and camp sites. It can hold more water (all types), has more storage, and more living space. And the diesel engine has about the same efficiency as my Roadtrek.
Roadtrek builds a quality product and in no way was I ever dissatisfied with my 190. I can also attest that it has a great resale value as I received a generous trade in value close to what I paid for it.
I know my Roadtrek will be as good to its new owners as it was to me. I will look fondly when ever I see those three front ceiling windows coming at me on the road.
